May’s Mission 2014
The WHAS telethon benefits a wide range of children’s charities throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana.
The Crusade began in 1954, and since its founding, the Crusade has raised more than $138 million for local children’s special needs. Throughout the year, various agencies throughout Kentucky and Southern Indiana apply for grants from the Crusade. Grants are made in all 120 Kentucky counties and in 50 Indiana counties.
The Crusade returns donations from a certain area to that area — for instance, donations from Floyd County, IN will be assigned to grant requests from that county. This has been Crusade policy since the beginning. All grants are on an annual basis; thus, charities must reapply each year. Grant requests typically total about three times the amount collected.
The Crusade prides itself in the fact that 100% of all donations go directly to grants. All overhead costs of the Crusade organization are covered by donations from businesses, and more recently from proceeds of an endowment set up for that purpose. During the years of Bingham family ownership of WHAS, the stations and the family covered many of such costs.
Please give generously when the mission buckets are passed or you may use the envelopes on the back of the pews.

Choices for Women
One of the wonders of life is to watch how fast a baby grows. The journey from two cells to seven pounds of perfection takes just nine months. For many in unplanned pregnancies, the worries of today completely overshadow the potential joys of the days to come. Abortion may seem like the only way to escape the crisis of the moment. At Choices for Women, women (and men) are guided as they work through the decision-making process to arrive at the times of joy.
Their compassionate client advocates help moms and dads grow in knowledge, in faith and in the strength needed to make positive life choices. Clients receive encouragement, training and material assistance. All of these services are free of charge because of faithful volunteers and the gifts of their partners.
What you can do:
Pray Volunteer
Make a financial gift
Donate material goods
Participate in Fundraising Events (Baby Bottle Boomerang Gala, Walk for Life, Golf Scramble)
Some statistics that may interest you from their 2012 annual report:
Over 600 clients had been served; over 3800 home visits, 70 babies were born, 24,000 baby/maternity items distributed, 386 gos- pel sharing opportunities, and 34 professions of faith were reported. Of those clients served, 59% were single and 34% of them were ages 15-19.
They are located at 2656 Charlestown Road I, New Albany. 812.941.0872 www.cfw4life.org
Since 12% of their annual income is from churches, please give as generously as you can by using the envelopes in the pews or on April 27th as the purple Mission Buckets are passed.

Mission for December 2013 = Spirit of the Season
Formerly known as Operation Santa Claus.
Once again Silver Street will be helping children in our community with Christmas gifts. People taking part in this program chose a child’s name provided by Hope Southern Ind. and buy that child a toy/clothes (value of $35.00) that the child has requested. Donna Troncin and Joyce Woller will be in Stanton Hall between services to pass out names. Gifts must be returned to church by December 15.
